Converting Greenhouse Gas Into Gasoline

According to New York Times, two scientists at Los Alamo National Laboratory, F. Jeffrey Martin and William L. Kubic Jr., are proposing an idea to remove carbon dioxide gas from the air and converting it into gasoline.
The way to do it is to blow the air into a liquid solution of potassium carbonate in order to absorb the carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is then extracted and undergo some chemical processes to eventually be converted into gasoline.
This sounds like something that can be easily done but why hasn’t it been done? It turns out that the process requires a huge amount of energy. Los Alamo scientists said they have been working to find ways to reduce the amount of energy needed.
If this project is successful, it will definitely be a breakthrough. We can potentially reduce or even decide the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere as well as having an “unlimited” supply of gasoline.
