Lights Out Campaign 21 June 2008

Today, an interesting event will be happening all over Asia.

Hong Kong, together with 70 other Asian cities will be participating in a lights out campaign Saturday night to raise awareness of smart energy use and global warming, an environmentalist said Friday. Hahn Chu of the Friends of the Earth (H.K.) said more than 120 companies and buildings have agreed to turn off lightings for an hour at 8:30 p.m. on the day of summer solstice.

Other cities joining the event include Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Beijing and Shanghai. Participating companies and buildings here, including the Legislative Council building, banks, the tallest building—the International Finance Center—and famous brand names such as Canon, Hitachi, Samsung, insurance firms and banks, will turn off their office and outdoor lighting or their giant advertising logos crowning the high-rises for an hour.

Will keep a regular update of this event. Do stay tune.
