Air quality in Beijing given the green light
With the Olympic just 24 hours away, the IOC (international Olympic Committee has announced that Beijing’s air does not pose any health hazards to the athletes, officials and visitors.
Even though haze and overcast skies are still present, it does not represent that the air quality is actually poor as commented by a Beijing environmental official.
Arne Ljungqvist, Chairman of the IOC medical commission also quoted that :
“I am sure and confident that the air quality will not pose any major problem to the athletes and visitors.”
In order to cope with its air quality problem for this year’s Olympic, Beijing has implemented many environmental policies. An example is the even and odd license plate policy.
The air quality problem has improved drastically over the years as Beijing prepares itself for the olympics. As reported from China Daily, because of these Olympic Games, Beijing would have probably taken 20 to 30 years to do what it has done in seven years.
With the amount of effort and resources the Chinese government to ensure that this Olympic Games will be a success, maybe its time for us to just sit back and enjoy the Games.
